“I’ll rim a guy, but I won’t kiss him. That looks too gay!” declares Duke on sraightcollegemen.com, a site for Internet voyeurs.
Where else but in the Bizarro world of gay porn known as “Straight Men Sites” is licking some guy’s asshole benign, yet kissing him is considered malignant, taboo? Nowhere else.
Why are there so many straight men sites (sites where for a fee you can look at straight guys beating off or having sex with other guys) out there as a porn option? The answer is simplicity itself: They are highly profitable. Gay men are fattening the wallets of webmasters and video producers who give them naked straight men, naked straight dudes beating off, or naked straight guys temporarily converted to gay for the cash.
But, really, it must be more than money or something in the water.
Although some are well compensated, the models are not paid princely sums by entertainment standards. Typically, the model receives somewhere between $200-$1500 per shoot, depending on the action required and the budget of the producing studio. The youngest and the newest models are at the low end of the scale. Straight models can collect a similar paycheck making heterosexual porn. Why be gay-for-pay?
“In my case, it was always about the money,” Paul, a married heterosexual, states emphatically. Ten years ago, the 40-year-old set gay hearts and videos ablaze, as well as straight.
“The straight work wasn’t always available,” Paul continues. “Doing guys is no big deal. I fucked men for the money. Period. Case closed.”
Let’s take Paul at his word. On the other hand, other models must have additional motivations.
Rob Rude, skaterboysex.com webmaster, shares his theory: “Some of the models are, whether they acknowledge it or not, gay, or at least they have gay or bisexual tendencies. For some reason, performing gay pornographically presents an opportunity for them to indulge their true sexual urges, free from the guilt or the embarrassment they might normally have, since it is just ‘work.’”
Onlyrealguys.com webmaster Jeremy echoes Rob: “Some of the models have desires that they don’t want to face.”
On his self-named website, SeanCody.com, Sean Cody writes: “Some of my guys just want to show off their beautiful bodies.”
Twenty-something Jared works in both gay and straight porn. “My old lady is a lap dancer, and I do porn. The money is good, but I really do it for the kicks. I get off knowing that people are watching my stiff cock or looking up my bunghole. Turning on both sexes makes me feel powerful. But I am straight. I can’t relate emotionally to guys. Whether I am on top or on bottom, with men, it’s sex and nothing more. With my girl, it’s sex and a whole lot more.”
On the audience side of the camera, why are gay men fascinated endlessly by, as Jarad bottom lines it, “looking up my bunghole,” or by watching straight men have gay sex? Decades of scientific evidence notwithstanding, some gay men crave heterosexuals, fantasizing about seducing them and converting them to homosexuality. It’s the flip side of the baseless fantasy the fanatic religious right holds about converting gay “sinners” to heterosexuality. In both cases, true sexual orientation conversion is mostly a pipe dream, but thousands of gay men puff this pipe. The straight sites cater to their hopes and fantasies by offering videos of their impossible dream come true. |

Rude of skaterboys gives an opinion: “Quite simply, it’s much more taboo watching people having sex together that aren’t ‘supposed to,’ and therefore, it is much more exciting.”
For this article, Jeremy of onlyrealguys polled his Yahoo group as to why gay men love watching straight studs. Their many different answers are summed up in this statement: “The turn-on is that straight guys are unobtainable, and they are so masculine.”
One straight-site junkie shares a different point of view. “Gay-on-gay sex gets old. You need new thrills. Watching straight men having gay sex launches your thrills into a higher orbit. It turns my wood into steel.”
Historically speaking, when did straight guys start acting gay? In modern times, straight men made their first big splash into gay erotica in the physique cinema of the 1950s. These amateurish films starred muscular men, many of them heterosexuals, who flexed and strutted in jocks or posing straps, largely for gay audiences.
A handful of the physique cinema stars, most notably Steve (Hercules) Reeves, went on to mainstream movies. Most of them were forgotten until their stories were told in Beefcake, a popular book and successful motion picture.
Wrestling films followed on the heels of physique cinema. Again, many of the wrestlers were straight. The actors were well aware that they were performing for the queer folk.
By the end of the 1960s, gay movie houses were showing better films. Still, the leading players were frequently straight or closeted. With the advent of videotape, straight actors went directly home with their gay viewers as if the videotape were a cheap trick.
The straight men Internet sites are relatively new. Computer and web technology have put the gay-for-pay actor on the viewer’s desk, or literally in his lap (top).
How are straight models recruited to these beat-off heaven portals? Cody writes: “I advertise for some. Some are referred, some know each other and some are related. I have had surprising success in approaching men on the street, at the beach, in stores, etc.”
One straight site claims its models are unaware their pictures are out in cyberspace. Straightlads.com markets to paying members this way: “These are actual boys next door getting drunk and out of their clothes for their friends only. These photos were not taken for others to see. Special gallery of pictures taken by ex-girlfriends.”
At firstauditions.com the method for getting straight guys is summed up as: “18-year-old schoolboys will do anything for pennies. Sexed-up youths with hardons in their pants all day will agree to anything.”
Sounds like rough treatment, but it is not the industry standard. Most models say that they are treated fairly, honestly and respectfully.
In the end, whether for money, ego gratification, or as a guiltless forum for exploring their own forbidden sexual desires, straight men are ready, willing and able to move effortlessly up and down Dr. Kinsey’s sexual orientation sliding scale to the delight of gay men. |
