The weather in Los Angeles is abominable. One of those sweltering, hazy days when your clothes stick to you like used dish towels and everybody is stomping around in god-awful, foul moods or driving their broiling cars like urban assault vehicles.

Lucky for me, I am high in the Hollywood Hills, deep in a verdant canyon full of huge shading trees. The heat from the flats doesn’t seem to reach here.

Luckier is that my stored-up good karma has paid off this day. I have a breeze blowing across my brow and a beautiful, bare man doing my bidding. Model Julian Fantechi is being a good sport, playing along with the construction theme of the photo shoot, swinging a hammer, wearing the requisite tool belt.

Julian and cameras are well acquainted. He’s done numerous layouts, clothed and not. His appearance in the November, 2005 Playgirl caused reader pandemonium that could only be quieted by a second spread in the August, 2006 issue. Look for him later this year as the poster boy for the 2(x)ist underwear winter campaign. He also can be seen in Your Personal Trainer, an exercise DVD (howtobuildyourbody.com).

Throughout the shoot, I learned a little more about Julian.
