Michael Broderick captures the moment of sexual climax

BY JOEY NATHAN

Sex. Sex. Sex. Is that all men thing about?

Well, yes. And Michael Broderick has been transforming our sexual thoughts -- or more specifically, his thoughts -- into works of art for the past dozen years.

“I’ve been drawing since I was very young, but I’ve only worked on the erotica for the past 12 years or so,” Michael says. “I started drawing erotic situations that I didn’t get to see in everyday life, like cartoons, movies, etc.”

Michael has mastered several styles of drawings, from pencil sketches to paintings to color blocks. He doesn’t limit himself to one style or one medium. He draws realistic, sci-fi, animated, fantasy -- if you can think of it, he can do it.

“I don’t think I can define my own style,” he explains, “but when I draw, my point is to capture the moment during anal sex, the best kind as far as I’m concerned, where the bottom surrenders completely to the top’s strength and control. When I put down the pencil, I need to see that sexual dynamic or the piece never sees the light of day.”

For Michael, this goal is to think dirty.

“The difference between my work and a lot of the gay-themed stuff I see around is that I like to draw explicit anal sex with the cum and juices as prominently featured as the blissfully labored faces of the participants,” he continues. “It’s less about perfect pecs and six-packs and more about idealizing the act.”

Michael’s explicit illustrations have captured the attention of erotic art lovers across the county. Like most artists in his field, however, it has been difficult to find opportunities to show his work to the admiring public.

“There is a small group of wonderful, gorgeous, intelligent -- did I say wonderful? -- amazing guys who collect my work. But for the most part my fans are cast far afield and only get to see my work on the web site,” he says. “I have participated in the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fairs here in New York City and have had a great success with that. Recently I had a piece in the Dirty Show 7 in Detroit.”

His work has also been seen in the international art magazine, blue. He has drawn the “How To” column in Instinct magazine and has illustrated fiction for both Men magazine and the All American Kink zine. Even with the growing fan base and the recent exposure, Michael still considers his art a hobby. It’s not a full-time job.

“I wish it were, however, the ‘cummy and juicy’ aspect of my work keeps it way out of the mainstream and keeps me at my current day job (which is textile design). If anyone owns a company that has a full-time position for someone who draws full-out man sex, then please give me a call.”

To enjoy Michael’s illustrations -- or offer him a job -- log on to hottlead.com. You can also buy some of his illustrations in card, T-shirt and calendar formats. If you have a chance, let Michael know how much you like his work.

“Sometimes even a quick ‘love your work’ can keep an artist going,” he says.
